Will my child be happy at a preschool? Will they be excited to attend? Will their teachers stay long enough to really know them? Will they be ready for kindergarten, not just academically, but socially and emotionally too?

Choosing childcare or a preschool is one of those decisions that can look straightforward on paper, until you’re actually making it for your child. You can compare hours, tuition, educational philosophies, classroom environments and locations. But some of the most important questions are harder to answer from a website:

Those are questions our current and former Eden Prairie Montessori families can answer better than we can.

So rather than simply telling you what makes Eden Prairie Montessori special, we looked through what parents themselves consistently say about their experiences at our North and South schools.

There are a few themes that came up again and again.

Here are some reasons why families choose Eden Prairie Montessori, and why they stay...

1. Teachers Who Truly Know and Care for Their Children

For many families, the people caring for their child matter more than almost anything else. Parents repeatedly describe Eden Prairie Montessori teachers as loving, patient, knowledgeable and genuinely invested in the children in their classrooms.

“Throughout our time here, our boys were supported, challenged, and nurtured each step of the way.”

— Pete Amundson, Eden Prairie Montessori North parent

Myriah Westrum, whose two boys attended Eden Prairie Montessori South, shared a similar experience:

“The teachers are loving, consistent, and intentional, and my children come home talking about how much they love their teachers and how much fun they had at school.”

And Michelle Miller described the teachers as “so patient and knowledgeable,” adding that the Montessori approach helps children become “thoughtful, creative, and curious leaders.”

That combination matters to us: children should feel deeply cared for while also being given opportunities to grow into the leaders they are meant to be.

2. Experienced Teachers and the Stability of Seeing Familiar Faces

Several parents specifically mention Eden Prairie Montessori’s teacher retention and stability, variables that can make an enormous difference during the early childhood years.

Judy Ann Tan, whose three boys attended EPM, wrote:

“Teachers are experienced, wise and have a great balance between gentleness and sternness. Very low turnover so you really get to know the people taking care of your children.”

Margo Bacher-Keleske’s children attended for almost five years, from infancy through preschool. She also singled out the school’s “very good retention/tenure,” along with caring, patient teachers.

For young children, relationships create the foundation from which so much learning happens. Familiar teachers, predictable classrooms and trusted relationships can help children feel secure enough to explore, try something difficult, make mistakes and grow.

3. Kindergarten Readiness And A Whole Lot More

Of course parents want their children prepared for school. But when families talk about what their children gained at Eden Prairie Montessori, they rarely stop at academics.

Brett Anderson wrote:

“Our children were incredibly prepared for school and learned so much beyond kindergarten readiness including independence, community, and kindness.”

Pete Amundson saw the impact continue after his boys left Montessori:

“They truly became more well-rounded individuals in each classroom and are thriving in elementary school as a result of the preparation that EPM provided.”

Krysta Munn saw growth both academically and socially, saying the Montessori approach helped her son “develop a love for learning.”

That’s at the heart of Montessori education. Preparing a child for what comes next isn’t only about what they know. It’s also about helping them develop confidence, independence, curiosity, concentration, kindness and a belief that learning is enjoyable.

4. A Close-Knit Community Where Families Feel Known

One word appears repeatedly in our parent reviews:

Community.

Aurora Munoz Williams describes Eden Prairie Montessori South as a “wonderful close knit community,” while Angelina Aller writes:

“They have built a strong positive community that genuinely cares about each child and their needs.”

Families also talk about feeling heard and respected themselves.

Brett Anderson remembers knowing from the first minutes of his family’s tour that Eden Prairie Montessori was the right place for their children:

“Every interaction we had made us feel respected, heard, and cared for.”

For us, early childhood education has never been just about the child who walks into the classroom each morning. Parents are entrusting us with someone extraordinarily important to them. That relationship matters, too.

5. A Place Children Can Grow With for Years

Some families first come to Eden Prairie Montessori looking for infant care. Others arrive during the toddler or preschool years.

Many end up staying.

Katie Kleinwachter’s son attended from infancy through age six. Margo Bacher-Keleske’s children spent almost five years at the school. Amber Bachmeier’s family has been part of the Eden Prairie Montessori community since 2017.

And for parents who have tried several types of childcare, finding somewhere that finally feels right can be especially meaningful.

Myriah Westrum wrote:

“We have tried nannies, in-home daycares, and larger childcare centers … and Eden Prairie Montessori South has been by far the most educational, structured, and nurturing environment we’ve experienced.”

Another South parent, Anisa Osman, shared that she had “hopped around for care” before finding Eden Prairie Montessori and was grateful to have found the school.

There is something special about a child being able to grow from one stage into the next in a community that already knows them.

6. The Kind of Place Children Actually Want to Come Back To

There are plenty of ways to measure the quality of a preschool or childcare program.

But parents have mentioned another pretty compelling one:

Their children love coming to school.

Mary Deleon writes that her child “loves coming here every day.”

Margo Bacher-Keleske says simply:

“My kids are loved and in turn love their school!”

And after years at Eden Prairie Montessori, Katie Kleinwachter summed up her son’s experience this way:

“Our son LOVED his time at EPM!”

A school should be a place where children are learning and developing along with somewhere they feel safe, capable, connected and excited to return to.
