History

Eden Prairie Montessori was established in 1982. Primarily we served toddlers through Kindergarteners, and recently added an infant room. We have served hundreds of families over the past years who still come and visit us, bringing their successful stories to tell.

Mission

At Eden Prairie Montessori we are commited to providing quality education and care for young children, to prepare them to become responsible, respectful, and independent individuals and life-long learners.

Our Logo

Helping children "discover" the relationships between geometric shapes and objects in everyday life is essential to Montessori methods. The triangle, circle and square are among some of the primary Montessori tools for learning. The triangle is the "constructor", a building block for more complex geometrics. The square is the "calculator" for building greater understanding of mathematical relationships. The circle is the "measurer" for distinguishing size and scale.

Montessori Philosophy

Children are introduced and exposed to a variety of subjects by way of age appropriate materials. Children learn to choose and work freely with activities. They discover basic functions, concepts, skills, and independence. Each child is presented with materials/activities according to his/her progress and ability. Children are allowed to repeat activities so they master their skills. The Montessori teacher, or as we call Montessori adult, functions as a facilitator rather than an instructor within the Montessori environment.

Staff

All staff are trained in CPR and First Aid, they are trained for their specific position with appropriate credentials. Lead teachers are trained in the Montessori method of teaching. The main role of the Montessori teacher, whom we call "the Montessori adult", is to present Montessori activities to the child, keep records and observations of the child, and communicate the developement and progress to the parents by the way of conferences, notes and reports.

Conferences are held twice a year in Spring and Fall. If the need arises for parents and teachers to have a conference in between, it can be arranged. All staff receive ongoing training to improve and develop techniques and skills of caregiving and guidance of children.
